UFC will return to ABC with a thrilling middleweight contenders’ bout that will see No. 6 ranked Marvin Vettori takes on No. 10 Kevin Holland. Streaking featherweight contenders collide in the co-main event, as No. 10 ranked contender Arnold Allen meets No. 11 Sodiq Yusuff. Also, No. 5 ranked UFC strawweight contender Nina Nunes collides with No. 11 Mackenzie Dern.

UFC FIGHT NIGHT: VETTORI vs. HOLLAND will take place Saturday, April 10. The main card will be simulcast live on ABC, ESPN Deportes and ESPN+ (English and Spanish) at 3 p.m. ET / 12 p.m. PT. The prelims will kick off on ESPN, ESPN Deportes and simulcast on ESPN+ (English and Spanish) at 11:30 a.m. ET / 8:30 a.m. PT.

The event follows on the heels of the UFC’s highly successful inaugural event on ABC, which saw Max Holloway defeat Calvin Kattar in a Fight of the Year candidate in January. The ABC broadcast of UFC FIGHT NIGHT: HOLLOWAY vs. KATTAR averaged 1.22 million viewers and was UFC’s biggest TV audience in almost a year. It was the first-ever live MMA event on ABC, which had last aired a combat sports card with a boxing event in 2000.

Vettori (16-4-1, fighting out of Mezzocorona, Italy) staked his claim as a legitimate title threat by winning an entertaining decision over Jack Hermansson in his first UFC main event. The talented grappler and striker has also secured thrilling victories against Karl Roberson, Andrew Sanchez and Cezar Ferreira. Vettori now aims to pick up his fifth consecutive win in emphatic fashion to continue his ascent up the middleweight ladder.

Holland (21-6, fighting out of Fort Worth, Texas) hopes to pick up where he left off despite a loss to Derek Brunson three weeks ago, which halted his historic 2020 campaign, which saw him become the first middleweight in UFC history to win five bouts inside a calendar year. A talented striker and grappler, Holland has netted spectacular KO wins against Jacare Souza, Charlie Ontiveros and Joaquin Buckley. Holland is now driven to pick up his sixth victory in a row to continue his ascent up the 185-pound ladder.

Allen (16-1, fighting out of Trimley St. Martin, Suffolk, England) also makes his first UFC appearance since January 2020, when he secured an entertaining win over fan favourite Nik Lentz. Victorious in nine consecutive outings, Allen also owns wins against former Strikeforce champion Gilbert Melendez, Mads Burnell and Makwan Amirkhani. Allen now hopes to push his win streak to double digits by becoming the first fighter to take out Yusuff in the UFC.

Yusuff (11-1, fighting out of Bladensburg, Md. by way of Lagos, Nigeria) returns to the Octagon for the first time since earning an exciting victory over Andre Fili in January 2020. Currently riding a six-fight win streak, he has also netted impressive wins against Gabriel Benitez, Sheymon Moraes and Mike Davis. Yusuff now looks to continue his unbeaten run and stake his claim as a future title challenger by becoming the first fighter to finish Allen.

Nunes (10-6, fighting out of Weston, Fla.) returns to action for the first time since June 2019, ready to remind the world that she is among the top athletes in the strawweight division. Having won four of her last five bouts, she has netted exciting victories against former title challenger Claudia Gadelha, Angela Hill and Randa Markos. Nunes is now gunning to take advantage of her first UFC co-main event by becoming the first fighter to finish Dern.

Decorated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Dern (10-1, fighting out of Huntington Beach, Calif.) aims to push her win streak to four consecutive bouts with another stellar submission win. A two-time gold medal winner at the World Jiu-Jitsu Championship, she holds submission wins in MMA over Randa Markos, Hannah Cifers and Amanda Cooper. Dern is now poised to earn the biggest win of her career to crack the strawweight top five.

Kasanganay (9-1) used a hard right hand to set up a takedown in the opening minute of the fight, and “Tshilobo” went to work. Palatnikov (6-3) made it back to his feet midway through the round, and the two proceeded to battle it out along the fence, each having their positive moments.

It was a strong start to round two for Kasanganay, and after a couple wild scrambles, he locked in a rear naked choke with no hooks in that forced a tap out at :26 of round two.

Da-un Jung vs William Knight

Da-un Jung extended his current unbeaten streak to 14 with a disciplined three-round unanimous decision win over William Knight in a light heavyweight bout.

Scores were 30-26, 30-26 and 30-27 for Jung, now 14-2-1. Knight falls to 9-2.

Knight targeted Jung’s lead leg with kicks as the bout began, but a subsequent takedown attempt was turned into a successful takedown for Jung, who controlled matters from the top position. And while Knight powered his way back to his feet, he was dumped to the mat again with 90 seconds to go and bloodied by the Seoul standout.

Da-un Jung Post-Fight Interview | UFC Fight Night: Vettori vs Holland
/

It was another strong start to round two for Knight, but again, he sought a takedown and got reversed by Jung, who put the fight on the mat once more. Knight would get up, only to get dragged to the canvas, and with a little over two minutes left, Jung flattened him out and let loose with his strikes. Knight was able to make it out of the round, but he now needed a finish to get the win.

Knight began the third firing bombs, but Jung eluded serious danger while scoring three consecutive takedowns, keeping the Connecticut native grounded for the rest of the bout.

Official Result: Da-un Jung def. William Knight by unanimous decision (30-26, 30-26, 30-27) | Official Scorecards

Luis Saldana vs Jordan Griffin

Featherweight newcomer Luis Saldana followed up his win on Dana White’s Contender Series with a three-round unanimous decision over Milwaukee veteran Jordan Griffin.

Saldana’s striking game and willingness to switch stances kept Griffin off balance in the early going, but a good combination two minutes in allowed Griffin to get on the scoreboard. With under two minutes to go, Griffin put Saldana on the canvas for a short spell.

The bout went back to the mat in round two and Saldana stayed busy off his back as he worked to return to his feet. After a stint standing, though, the two went to the ground with a little over two minutes remaining, Griffin controlling the action before nearly finishing the bout with a rear naked choke in the closing seconds.

Both fighters had their moments in the final frame, but when the final tallies were read, it was 29-28 on all three judges’ scorecards for Saldana, now 15-6. Griffin falls to 18-9.

The grappling exchanges continued to be close in the second, perhaps leaving the standup game to decide the round, and while Shore was the busier striker, Azure got in enough shots to make it a frame too close to call.

In the third, though, Shore surged and did enough to take the victory on two of the three judges’ scorecards and that’s all he needed.

John Makdessi vs Ignacio Bahamondes

Lightweights John Makdessi and Ignacio Bahamondes put on a striking show for three rounds, with Canada’s Makdessi taking the split decision win over the Chilean newcomer.

Scores were 30-27, 29-28, 28-29 for Makdessi, now 18-7. Bahamondes, who missed weight for the bout at 156.75 pounds, falls to 11-4.

Bahamondes was the busier fighter in the early going, comfortable in the Octagon for the first time, but with 2:41 left, Makdessi rocked him badly twice, cutting the Chilean under the right eye. Bahamondes ultimately cleared his head, but Makdessi had emphatically turned the tide of the fight.

The pace picked up considerably in the second, both fighters trading shots with abandon as Bahamondes battled his way back into the fight with his busy attack. Makdessi’s jab was on target, though, and when he mixed in power shots, he was still finding the mark.

In the final round, neither fighter was willing to back down, Bahamondes throwing more, but Makdessi landing with more accuracy, and you could see the wear of the battle on the faces of both men as they battled tooth and nail to the final horn.

Official Result: John Makdessi def. Ignacio Bahamondes by split decision (30-27, 29-28, 28-29) | Official Scorecards

Joe Solecki Post-Fight Interview | UFC Fight Night: Vettori vs Holland

Solecki’s striking was sharp in the first two minutes of the fight, clearly getting Miller’s attention. Miller focused on kicks when it came to his return fire before the fight went to the mat with two minutes to go, Miller working from the top position until the end of the frame.

Scoring a takedown early in round two, now it was Solecki’s turn to work from the top as the two battled on the mat, and it was Solecki keeping Miller on his back for the rest of the round, likely evening the fight on the scorecards heading into the final round.

Another trip to the mat opened up the third stanza, Solecki again taking the dominant position on the veteran, and again, he refused to let Miller get up, in the process scoring the biggest win of his career.

Official Result: Joe Solecki def. Jim Miller by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27) | Official Scorecards

Perry began the fight as the aggressor, but it was Rodriguez doing the bulk of the scoring with his punches upstairs, including a left hand that rocked Perry in the second minute. After steadying himself, Perry continued marching forward, but Rodriguez was having no issue landing with his shots down the middle. In response, Perry scored a takedown with 90 seconds left and he kept his foe grounded until the horn.

Rodriguez continued to dominate the action on the feet in the second round while Perry threw in another takedown to keep things close. The effects of the Californian’s shots were showing on Perry’s face, but the Florida product wasn’t backing down, and while he continued to show off his heart in the final round, Rodriguez’ striking attack was too much for him.

Sam Alvey vs Julian Marquez

Middleweights Julian Marquez and Sam Alvey were swinging hard from the start, but it was a submission that ended the bout in the second round, with Marquez emerging victorious.

If you go by the strategy implemented by Alvey and Marquez in the first round, neither fighter was interested in going the distance, as each punch was delivered with bad intentions. And while it was Marquez who landed the cleaner and more punishing shots, Alvey had the last word when he rocked Marquez late in the frame.

Arnold Allen Post-Fight Interview | UFC Fight Night: Vettori vs Holland
/

Nigeria’s Yusuff began the fight as the aggressor but was taken down by England’s Allen in the opening minute. Yusuff tried to lock in a guillotine choke, but when that came up empty, he used it to get back to his feet. Allen got in some hard strikes as the round progressed, scoring a knockdown with a left hand midway through. Another Allen takedown followed, but the fight didn’t stay there long.

Both fighters were getting their shots in during the first half of the second round, but is was a left kick to the head that staggered Yusuff and had him in trouble. Allen fell to the mat after landing the kick so it cost him precious seconds to try to finish, and Yusuff cleared his head and went back to work. In the final minute, Allen locked up with Yusuff against the fence, and it stayed there until less than 20 seconds remained.

Allen looked to implement his grappling in round three, confident that he was up on the scorecards, but Yusuff defended well and found the space to make his run at turning the fight around. It wasn’t to be, though, as Allen fought off the charge of “Super” Sodiq to take the win.

Official Result: Arnold Allen def. Sodiq Yusuff by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) | Official Scorecards

Marvin Vettori Post-Fight Interview | UFC Fight Night: Vettori vs Holland
/

Holland fired off kicks to begin the bout until a low shot brought a momentary halt to the action. When the fight resumed, Holland stayed busy, his speed advantage clear. In the second minute, Vettori closed the distance and bulled his foe into the fence, but the pair didn’t stay there long, going back to the long-range game until another clinch from Vettori. With 1:42 left, Vettori scored his first takedown, but after some solid work, Holland was upright with 40 seconds to go.

After starting off the second with some solid strikes, Holland got taken down by Vettori, and the Italian went on to work his ground-and-pound attack to perfection for the rest of the frame, with Holland only getting back to his feet in the closing moments.

With his left eye starting to close, Holland had to make a run quick in order to get back in the fight, but Vettori put the fight right back on the mat in the first minute of round three. Vettori soon moved into the mount position and looked for an arm triangle, and while he got it, Holland stayed calm and Vettori let the hold go. Midway through the round, the two stood, and though Vettori kept the pressure on, a late flurry of strikes from Holland showed that he wasn’t going anywhere.

The fourth was another dominant frame on the mat for Vettori, and while a right hand apparently rattled him early in the fifth, he put Holland back on the deck and it was more of the same until the final horn. | Official Scorecards
