Results As They Happen, Winner Interviews And More From UFC Fight Night: Rodriguez vs Lemos, Live From The UFC Apex In Las Vegas, Nevada

If the way things played out on Saturday at the UFC APEX are any kind of harbinger of what’s to come next weekend in New York City, there is a good chance that the roof is going to come off Madison Square Garden because the men and women that stepped into the Octagon this weekend in Las Vegas put on quite a show.

Amanda Lemos closed out the show with a massive third-round stoppage win over Marina Rodriguez, not a single fight on the main card went the distance, and there were nine finishes in 11 bouts.

It was non-stop action at the APEX before shipping off to The Big Apple! | Official Scorecards

UFC Fight Night: Rodriguez vs Lemos Main Card

Main Event: Amanda Lemos defeats Marina Rodriguez by TKO (punches) at 0:54 of Round 3

Statement made by Amanda Lemos!

The Brazilian powerhouse secured a third-round stoppage win over streaking contender Marina Rodriguez, picking up her second straight finish to make her case for a championship opportunity.

In the first round, the Brazilians showed each other tremendous respect, neither wanting to wade into dangerous waters too quickly. In the second, a slick trip from Lemos put the fight on the canvas, where she controlled Rodriguez for the remainder of the frame. As the third began, each woman came out more willing to throw, and when Lemos landed her right hand, Rodriguez immediately looked dazed.

Lemos swarmed, unloading a barrage of power shots that backed Rodriguez into the fence, motionless, prompting referee Jason Herzog to step in and stop the fight.

Just a massive victory for Lemos, halting Rodriguez’ run of success and punching her ticket to the Top 5… and perhaps a championship opportunity in 2023. | Official Scorecards

Neil Magny Post-Fight Interview | UFC Fight Night: Rodriguez vs Lemos
/

This was a highly competitive fight from the outset, with neither man willing to give the other an inch. In the first, Magny’s jab, movement, and variety gave the Colorado native an edge, but in the second, Rodriguez clawed back by closing the distance and bullying Magny on the feet. Early in the third, Rodriguez appeared to stung the Top 15 fixture, but Magny recovered quickly and went on the offensive, turning to his wrestling.

Late in the frame, he turned a front headlock position into a D’arce choke, leaving Rodriguez no choice but to tap. With the finish, Magny got himself back into the win column and moved to 20-8 inside the Octagon, cementing his place in the rankings and etching his name in the record books once again. | Official Scorecards

Shayilan Nuerdanbieke Post-Fight Interview | UFC Fight Night: Rodriguez vs Lemos

Minner threw a body kick and recoiled in pain, seemingly suffering a knee injury. He threw another kick as Nuerdanbieke marched forward and then ate a flying knee along the fence that put him on the canvas. From there, “The Wolverine” unloaded a torrent of unanswered blows, prompting referee Mark Smith to step in and stop the fight.

That’s now three straight victories for Nuerdanbieke, who continues to show improvements and made headway in the talent-rich featherweight division, while Minner suffers a third straight setback. | Official Scorecards

Tagir Ulanbekov Octagon Interview | UFC Fight Night: Rodriguez vs Lemos
/

The grappler from Dagestan didn’t waste much time looking to wrestle, putting Maness on the deck early in the fight, and when the flyweight debutant looked to clamber to his feet, Ulanbekov latched onto a high-elbow guillotine choke. Try as he might, Maness could not extricate himself from the hold and was forced to tap.

After losing a decision to veteran Tim Elliott last time out, this was about as dominant a return to the win column as you’ll see in the flyweight division. Now 14-2 overall and 3-1 in the UFC, Ulanbekov should return to the rankings and keep moving forward in the division in 2023. | Official Scorecards

Grant Dawson defeats Mark O. Madsen by submission (rear-naked choke) at 2:05 of Round 3

Grant Dawson Post-Fight Interview | UFC Fight Night: Rodriguez vs Lemos

After getting sat down by a right hand right out of the chute, the talented grappler out-hustled Madsen on the canvas for the first two rounds. In the third, Dawson came out bashing home low kicks that eventually took Madsen off his feet, and after following him to the canvas, Dawson found a way under the neck, securing the finish.

The 28-year-old Dawson is now 7-0-1 in the UFC and 19-1-1 overall. He’s looked outstanding in back-to-back outings since moving to American Top Team, and continues to move forward in the treacherous lightweight division. | Official Scorecards

UFC Fight Night: Rodriguez vs Lemos Prelims

Miranda Maverick defeats Shanna Young by unanimous decision (30-26, 30-26, 30-26)

Miranda Maverick dominated her bout with Shanna Young on the canvas, collecting a lopsided decision win in the night’s final prelim.

The two ran relatively level on the feet, with Young doing a good job of keeping Maverick at range, but as soon as the flyweight prospect looked to grapple, the difference in abilities was apparent. After putting Young on the canvas late in the opening stanza, Maverick took her down earlier in the second, and had her back on the mat less than a minute into the final round.

Mario Bautista Beats Lopez With A Triangle Armbar Submission | UFC Fight Night: Rodriguez vs Lemos

This was one-way traffic from the beginning, as Bautista bullied Lopez around the cage, roasting his midsection with body shots in the early standup before slamming him to the canvas and continuing to dominate on the ground. After threatening with a straight armlock from the crucifix position, Bautista adjusted to a reverse triangle choke before extending the arm and getting the tap.

Johnny Muñoz defeats Liudvik Sholinian by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)

A well-rounded effort earned Johnny Muñoz the second win of his UFC career on Saturday.

In the first, Muñoz got the better of the striking exchanges with TUF 29 alum Liudvik Sholinian, and in the second, he showed more of his grappling and scrambling ability, countering Sholinian’s attempts to take things to the canvas. Things were a little more competitive and close over the final five minutes, but the more technical bantamweight from “Horsetown USA” worked his way to the final bell and collected the unanimous decision win.
