Dana White Announces Three Title Fights In 2024
Sean Strickland, Alexander Volkanovski And Sean O’Malley Are Set To Defend Their Belts In The First Three Months Of 2024
UFC CEO Dana White announced via his social media channels three huge title fights for January, February and March.
First, newly minted middleweight champion Sean Strickland will defend his title against South African contender Dricus Du Plessis. This is Strickland’s first title defense since he upset Israel Adesanya in September at UFC 293, where Du Plessis was expected to challenge for the belt before injuries got in the way. With Adesanya taking a step back from competition for the moment and Khamzat Chimaev fresh off a win over Kamaru Usman at UFC 294, the middleweight division is up for a fun year from the jump.

In February, White announced the return of Alexander Volkanovski to the featherweight division where he’ll defend his longheld throne against the surging Ilia Topuria. Volkanovski earned even more respect when he stepped up to fight Islam Makhachev on short-notice even though the Australian came up short on the night. Now, back at 145, he has his hands full with Topuria, whose most recent outing came in the form of a 5-round beatdown of Josh Emmett.
Finally, White announced the rematch between Sean O’Malley and Marlon Vera. “Suga” will make his first defense of the bantamweight title against the man who beat him on his way up when they faced off in August 2020. O’Malley bounced back with four wins to earn a title shot against Aljamain Sterling at UFC 292, and he wrested the belt away with a furious right hand. The fight is dripping with narrative potential, and it is surely one that will stir up debate as per the norm in the bantamweight division.
